Understanding IHG Merlin and the Systems Around It
IHG Merlin is an internal workplace environment used across parts of the IHG Hotels & Resorts system. Public IHG materials show Merlin connected with Network IDs, hotel applications, employee travel eligibility, support services, and operational resources. It should not be confused with the public IHG One Rewards account used by hotel guests or with MyHR, which IHG uses for certain employee HR and internal-career functions.
[PUBLICATION NAME] is an independent editorial resource explaining how those systems relate to one another.
The focus is not to create another fake “IHG employee login” page. Authentication belongs on IHG-controlled systems.
Instead, this publication answers the questions that become difficult once several IHG names appear in the same workflow:
- What is Merlin actually for?
- What is an IHG Network ID?
- How does MyID fit into the account lifecycle?
- Why might a colleague have Merlin access but no MyHR access?
- How does an IHG One Rewards account become connected with employee travel benefits?
- What is IHG One Pass?
- Why can a franchised-hotel employee use IHG systems without being employed by IHG itself?
- Who starts a Network ID request for a new hotel employee?
- What is the difference between a locked password, a locked authenticator, a disabled account, and missing application access?
- Where does IHG Procurement fit for hotel users and suppliers?

IHG Merlin Explained: What the Hotel Workplace Gateway Connects
IHG’s current Network ID registration page confirms that Merlin access is tied to an organizational account process rather than open public registration. Since September 17, 2023, new hires cannot simply begin self-registration without first receiving an invitation code. The provisioning route also differs among corporate colleagues, managed-hotel employees, franchised-hotel employees, contractors, and vendors.
That immediately tells us something important about Merlin:
It is part of an identity-and-access environment, not a public membership website.
Merlin and IHG One Rewards Are Different Accounts
IHG One Rewards is the public loyalty program used for hotel reservations, points, status, and member benefits.
Merlin is associated with workplace access.
The two intersect in one particularly visible place: employee travel.
IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme says eligible colleagues need an IHG One Rewards member number. That member number may be linked to a Merlin ID, while employees without a Merlin ID can have eligibility validated through an authorized manager process. Employee-rate reservations are then made through IHG.com or the IHG One Rewards app rather than inside an imitation employee portal.

MyHR Is a Separate HR and Career Layer
MyHR should not be treated as another spelling of Merlin.
IHG’s current Internal Careers page states that colleagues who have MyHR access can sign in and use the Current Jobs icon to search and apply internally. Colleagues without MyHR access are instructed to use the external career site and identify themselves as current IHG employees during the application.
This shows that a working Merlin account does not automatically prove that MyHR is available to the same person.

Your Employment Relationship Changes What “IHG Employee” Means
IHG’s 2025 Annual Report makes an important distinction that generic Merlin sites often miss.
IHG states that it does not employ colleagues in franchised hotels and does not control those hotels’ day-to-day operations, policies, or procedures. At the same time, franchised hotels make up a large part of the IHG system and their eligible employees can participate in certain IHG-wide programs.
That means all of these can be true:
- you work at an IHG-branded hotel;
- you use an IHG Network ID;
- you access Merlin;
- you qualify for selected IHG colleague programs;
- your legal employer is an independent franchise company rather than IHG.
This distinction matters for benefits, HR support, employment policies, and account provisioning.

The Employee Travel System Has Changed
IHG launched IHG One Pass in 2025 as a colleague travel-benefits program. Its current public page describes rates for colleagues and their approved friends or family, booking through IHG.com or the One Rewards app, and specific program limits and conduct rules. IHG’s 2025 Annual Report also identifies One Pass as an expansion of its colleague travel offering.
The older Employee Room Benefit Programme and the newer One Pass ecosystem are related, but searchers should not assume that every old Merlin tutorial accurately describes the current travel program.

Account Problems Need to Be Diagnosed by Layer
IHG’s own Network Account Support material distinguishes several failure states:
- forgotten password;
- password lock;
- authenticator lock;
- disabled account;
- account re-enablement through an authorized GM or hotel IT administrator in MyID.
A user who can authenticate to Merlin but cannot open one hotel application may have a permissions or application problem rather than a password problem.
A user who never received an invite code may have a provisioning problem.
A user whose second factor is locked has a different issue again.

General Managers and Hotel IT Administrators Have Their Own Workflow
IHG’s public instructions give General Managers and hotel IT administrators a defined role in several processes.
For many franchised-hotel colleagues, an authorized property leader starts the Network ID invitation process. IHG support documentation also says a GM or hotel IT administrator may be able to re-enable certain accounts through MyID. Employee travel materials describe manager validation as another route for colleagues without a Merlin ID.
This creates a legitimate administrator search intent that is different from ordinary employee login help.

Merlin Also Reaches Into Hotel Operations
Merlin is not only an employee-benefits environment.
Current IHG Procurement pages are explicitly branded IHG Procurement – IHG Merlin and provide separate access paths for hotel users and suppliers. The procurement environment covers hotel construction, openings and renovations, hotel operations, and market-specific programs.
A current Market Basket workflow, for example, asks for hotel-specific information including Inn Code, brand, location, preferred distributor information, and purchasing data.

Learning Is Another Separate Ecosystem
IHG maintains multiple learning and career-development concepts.
Its public careers material references development resources such as IHG University, while IHG Skills Builder is a separate public learning platform that currently offers more than 250 learning items and five core courses to registered participants worldwide.
That public Skills Builder platform should not automatically be treated as the same thing as internal Merlin learning.

U.S. Benefits Are Not Universal Across Every IHG-Branded Hotel
IHG’s U.S. careers FAQ lists benefits that may be available to eligible IHG colleagues, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, spending accounts, employee assistance, family-building benefits, 401(k), education assistance, vacation, wellness/sick time, and colleague room rates. It also states that eligibility depends on terms of employment and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
IHG’s annual report adds another crucial limitation: franchise hotel colleagues are not employed by IHG.
So a Merlin ID by itself does not establish a particular U.S. benefit package.

Independent Editorial Guidance
[PUBLICATION NAME] is not IHG Hotels & Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group PLC, an IHG hotel, a hotel franchisee, or IHG technical support.
We do not provide a substitute Merlin login page and do not authenticate employees.
Do not submit:
- Merlin passwords;
- Network ID credentials;
- MFA or authenticator codes;
- hotel operational credentials;
- employee payroll records;
- personal banking information;
- IHG One Rewards passwords;
- confidential hotel data.
Use verified IHG or employer-controlled systems for authentication and account recovery.
Our job is to explain which system and relationship you are dealing with before you choose the official destination.
