IHG publishes a detailed list of benefits that may be available to eligible U.S. colleagues.
Its current Careers FAQ names medical and pharmacy coverage, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, FSAs and HSAs, employee assistance, family-building benefits, paid parental leave, education assistance, a 401(k), financial education, colleague room rates, vacation, wellness/sick time, and additional voluntary benefits.
That list should not be interpreted as a universal benefits promise to every person with a Merlin ID.
Eligibility Depends on Employment Terms
IHG itself includes an important qualification.
The Careers FAQ says benefits eligibility depends on the terms of employment and, where applicable, a collective bargaining agreement.
This means two IHG colleagues can have different benefits while both legitimately using IHG systems.
Franchise Employees Are a Separate Employer Population
IHG’s annual report states that franchise-hotel colleagues are not employed by IHG.
A franchise company may offer its own:
- medical plan;
- retirement plan;
- PTO;
- sick leave;
- insurance;
- payroll system.
The existence of a Network ID does not replace those employer-specific arrangements.
Managed and Corporate Roles Can Have IHG Benefits
Current IHG U.S. job postings illustrate the benefits provided with particular IHG employment roles.
For example, current InterContinental Boston postings list medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) with company match, paid vacation/holidays/wellness days, staff meals, and IHG employee-room benefits.
Another current IHG-managed property posting in San Francisco lists free medical coverage for eligible colleagues and heavily subsidized dental and vision coverage, alongside One Pass travel benefits.
Those are job-specific examples, not proof that every IHG-branded hotel uses identical plans.
Collective Bargaining Can Change the Package
IHG’s 2025 Annual Report says a significant number of colleagues at managed, owned and leased hotels in parts of the Americas are covered by collective bargaining agreements or similar agreements.
A union agreement can affect:
pay;
benefit contributions;
work rules;
leave;
other conditions.
IHG’s own careers disclaimer therefore matters.
Employee Travel Is Different From Health Insurance
A franchise employee may qualify for an IHG-wide colleague travel program even if medical insurance is supplied entirely by the franchise employer.
IHG’s Employee Rate terms include eligible employees of third-party franchisees.
That makes employee room benefits a poor proxy for determining who provides health insurance or retirement.
MyHR Access Is Also Not Benefit Eligibility
MyHR is a workplace HR system available to certain colleague groups.
The current internal-career page proves that not every current colleague has MyHR access.
Likewise, a user without MyHR should not assume there are no benefits.
The relevant employer’s plan documentation controls.
Verify Benefits From the Actual Employer
For a job offer or current role, use:
- offer documentation;
- Summary Plan Description where applicable;
- employer HR resources;
- collective bargaining agreement where applicable;
- official benefits enrollment material.
Do not use Merlin access as the eligibility test.
What Merlin Can Tell You
Merlin can establish that you are an authorized user of IHG workplace resources.
That is useful.
It simply answers a different question from:
Which company sponsors my medical insurance?
The distinction becomes especially important in a franchise-heavy hotel system.
